How is GIS used in Woodland
The City of Woodland staff employs Geographic Information System (GIS) in various capacities and formats, with the Public Works department being its primary user. GIS plays a crucial role in inventorying the city's infrastructure, including water, sewer, and storm drainage systems. Field crew workers utilize GIS to access these assets, enabling real-time viewing, querying, and updating while on-site.
Other departments such as Planning, Finance, Engineering, Police, and Fire utilize an internal web-based GIS portal. This portal enables staff to access, view and query information such as parcel ownership data, zoning information, and current aerial imagery. Notably, the GIS portal consolidates both internally created data and integrates it seamlessly with external sources, enhancing efficiency and data accessibility across all departments.
