Join the City of Woodland and the Woodland Tree Foundation on Saturday, March 2nd at 8:30 am to celebrate Arbor Day with a community-wide tree planting. A short program will be held at Campbell Park, 701 Thomas Street, Woodland, including instructions on proper tree planting and care. Volunteers will then group up to plant approximately 50 city trees throughout the community. City Environmental Services staff will also be present to provide information on water conservation, green waste, composting, and other conservation-related topics.
Volunteers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and to bring shovels and gloves, though some supplies will be provided. No experience is necessary for this family-friendly event. Arbor Day is a nationally celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care. Each year, the City of Woodland celebrates Arbor Day in order to recognize the community benefits of trees and the community’s heritage as “The City of Trees”. Public trees provide a wide range of benefits for our community; including, energy use reduction, air quality improvements, stormwater interception, sequestered atmospheric CO2, and increased property values. Woodland’s 2018 Urban Forest Resource Analysis found that for every $1 invested in public trees, the Woodland community receives $2.51 in benefits.
This tree planting event is a part of the City's efforts to plant 1,200 trees through the Cal Fire Urban and Community Forestry Program and California Climate Investment grant. A year and a half into the project, over 650 trees have been planted in the community. In addition, this grant will allow the City to develop and adopt an Urban Forest Master Plan to continue to grow and protect Woodland’s Urban Forest.
