City Hall Pollinator & Water Wise Planting Day

bee

INVITE YOUR EMPLLOYEES TO REGISTER HERE to participate in the City Hall pollinator and water wise planting day:
9am-12pm on Feb 12th!

Context of planting workshop:
The City of Woodland is inviting volunteers to help transform City Hall’s front yard to a pollinator and water wise planting day. In anticipation of this planting day, the lawn at City Hall has undergone “sheet mulching” to kill the lawn by covering it with layers of cardboard and mulch. This process, started in fall 2020, suppresses growth of grass by starving it from light, while restoring nutrients back to the soil in preparation for this planting workshop.

Under the leadership of UC Davis Arboretum experts, volunteers can expect to:
  • Practice planting techniques
  • Learn how and why sheet mulching is a beneficial way to prep a landscape for gardening
  • Get up close and personal with a variety of native, pollinator friendly, and water wise plants
  • Learn about the City of Woodland’s commitment as a Bee City USA affiliate
  • Meet knowledgeable UC Davis arboretum stuff and other volunteers in a socially distanced outdoor activity
Basic info:
  • When: Friday February 12th from 9am to 12pm
  • Where: Woodland’s City Hall front yard, 300 1st Street
  • Volunteer spots available: 3 households with a maximum of 6 participants. Must be over 18 yrs old to participate
  • Dress code: Warm and comfortable clothing suitable for gardening; sun protection; face covering; gardening gloves
  • Registration: REGISTER HERE. As space is limited, registration will be on a first-come-first served basis and all others will be placed on a waiting list.
Questions can be directed to Stephanie Burgos, Business Engagement & Marketing Stephanie.Burgos@cityofwoodland.org

**COVID safety & general waiver: Face coverings and social distancing will be required to keep all volunteers safe throughout the duration of the workshop. Participants must be willing to sign 1) a City form indicating that they are covid symptom free and 2) the City’s general waiver. Extra PPE and a sanitation station will be available to volunteers.**
