“LOVE FOR OUR WOODLAND COMMUNITY” CAMPAIGN RAISES OVER $3,380 FOR YOLO FOOD BANK

The “Love for Our Woodland Community” campaign was led by Raley’s, in partnership with the Yolo Food Bank, and the City of Woodland’s The Food Front*. The eleven participating Woodland businesses**, otherwise known as “The Food Front Partners”, paid it forward through this campaign by sending up to 5% of their revenue from sales of their products at Woodland’s Raley’s and Bel Air between February 14th to March 14th directly to Yolo Food Bank. By purchasing any of the 175 Woodland-crafted products, community shoppers helped generate over $3,380 for Yolo Food Bank.

Although the campaign is now over, shoppers can still easily find locally crafted products throughout Woodland’s Raley’s & Bel Air stores thanks to shelf tags, floor displays, and end caps with The Food Front logo. For those that prefer to shop online, a dedicated page with all The Food Front products is accessible HERE. Products such as almonds, extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, tortillas, salsa, craft beer, and a variety of canned fruits, tomatoes and sauces are among the many Woodland-crafted products that are available online and in-store.

The following Food Front partners joined this campaign and helped generate funds for Yolo Food Bank: Almond Lane, Blue Note Brewing, Bright People Foods, Cobram Estate, Hinode Rice, La Tourangelle, Matchbook Wines, Pacific Coast Producers, Seka Hills, Z Specialty Island of the Moon Honey, and Micaela’s California Fresh Tortillas & Salsa.

We look forward to another future collaboration with Raley's and these businesses!

RESTORE CA GRANT FOR FARMERS

m

Restore California is a program of Zero Foodprint, with the support of the USDA National Resources Conservation Service

Applications open through April 22, 2021. Grants range from $2,500 to $25,000 for farmers. For more info, click HERE.

Since their launch in 2020, they have awarded $325k to 18 projects across CA, expected to remove 7000 tons of carbon from the atmosphere, equivalent to not burning 800,000 gallons of gas.

The primary goal of the program is to sequester atmospheric carbon in the form of soil organic carbon, resulting in myriad co-benefits for the public ranging from climate resilience to improved nutrient density. The secondary goals of the program are to distribute funds in a manner that reflects the following values: (1) spurring broader adoption of regenerative agricultural practices; (2) increasing awareness of and demand for ingredients produced through regenerative agriculture; and (3) distributing Restore California funds equitably.

The Restore program serves as a catalyst for federal, state, and regional efforts to increase the beneficial ecosystem services provided by agriculture and specifically to advance climate change goals by improving soil health and sequestering atmospheric carbon. In doing so, the program aims also to engage the public in supporting the resilience and carbon benefit potential of the agricultural economy and land holdings.

The financial incentives made available through the Restore California program enable farmers and ranchers to adopt conservation practices and, in exchange, businesses and consumers gain the opportunity to directly improve regional food systems and take regionalized climate action. The soil health practices funded through Restore California will accrue value to the agricultural operation as well, improving water and nutrient management, among other benefits.

BULLSEYE FARMS AND ALMOND LANE PLANTING DAY

a

Bullseye Farms & Almond Lane (The Farm Stand) will be hosting a planting day on April 3rd from 9AM to 1PM.

This planting day will be a great opportunity for community members to get outside, meet one another, and their local farmers. A 1.2 mile long native CA species hedgerow will be planted along CO RD 102. There will be over 19 native flowering species planted, totaling to be 1061 plants!

The purpose of the hedgerow is to not only shield the maturing pistachio orchards from highway litter and wind, but to provide year round habitat for beneficial insects and birds that will keep the orchard’s pest populations at bay. Bullseye Farms implements a complex Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program on their farm, relying on beneficial insects and predators as pest control before chemical controls. Last year, Bullseye Farms released about 50 million predatory mites into a walnut orchard to fight the 2 Spotted Spider Mite pest, and hope the population has established itself so that there will be no spider mites in the orchard for years to come.

Please spread the word about this event! Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/almond-lane-hedgerow-planting-day-tickets-142606001389

....and be on the lookout for The Farm Stand's reopening soon!
