Library Card Sign-up Month

Library Card Sign-up Month

This September, the Woodland Public Library is joining libraries nationwide for Library Card Sign-Up Month, a time to remind parents, caregivers and students that a library card is the first step toward academic achievement and lifelong learning. Libraries play an important role in the education and development of children. Studies show that children who are read to at home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifelong learning.

Our library programs serve students of all ages. For younger children, we offer early literacy resources to help them learn to read and encourage school readiness. For teens and older students, we provide access to technology and digital tools (such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and telescopes) as well as free one on one tutoring available online.

Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During this time, we join other libraries in a national effort to ensure all residents sign up for a library card and know about all that the Woodland Public Library offers.  We currently serve 36,308 library card holders including all WJUSD students who also can use their student ID card as a library card. Library Users borrowed over 202,000 physical and digital items last year.

150th Card Contest

WPL will celebrate its 150th Anniversary on July 4, 2024!

To help the library celebrate 150 years of service to the community, Woodland kids, teens, and adults are invited to enter the Library’s 150th Anniversary Library Card Design Contest. We need the artistic and creative talent of our community to design our next library card! Submission forms and full rules and details can be found here.
