Leaf Drop Season is Around the Corner

This year, Leaf Drop Season starts on October 31 and will run until January 31 where single-family residents can place green waste piles in the street weekly for service. Make sure to follow the rules to ensure your pile gets picked up:

  • Piles may not be larger than 5 ft long, 4 ft wide, and 4 ft high and may not contain branches thicker than 6 inches in diameter.
  • You may have multiple piles as long it does not exceed your property line and are noticeably separated from other piles and objects such as carts and vehicles.
  • Piles must contain plant material only and may never include grass clippings. Always place grass clippings in your organics cart.
  • Also, pumpkins and other food scraps do not belong in street piles since they can attract unwanted pests and make a mess.

Visit the Green Waste Street Pile Program webpage for full details on the program rules and other information.

Day Without Water Image

Imagine a Day Without Water

Join us in marking the 9th annual Imagine a Day Without Water—a national day of action! On October 19, join a tide of people from across the country raising awareness about the critical role water plays in our lives and the need to invest in our collective water future. Here are three things you can do to conserve water this fall:

  • As temperatures drop, our landscape doesn't need as much water. We recommend to reduce your run times and not to irrigate more than 3 days per week.
  • Rinse fruits and vegetables in a bowl of water instead of letting the water run down the drain. The water collected can later be used to water plants around the home.
  • Use WaterSense labeled products when changing out your water devices such as toilets and showerheads. WaterSense labeled products are certified to be at least 20 percent more efficient without sacrificing performance.
