Join Woodland’s César Chávez Celebration on Thursday, March 28

To commemorate and celebrate the life and work of labor and civil rights leader César Chávez, the City of Woodland will host a celebration at the Woodland Community & Senior Center on Thursday, March 28 at 5 PM. Join the City and fellow residents for this annual event that includes a special guest speaker, music, and dance performances to celebrate the life and accomplishments of César Chávez.

This year’s keynote speaker be Dr. Lizette Navarette, the new President of Woodland Community College.

During the event, the Beamer School Ballet Folklórico group will perform and winners of the Youth Essay contest will read their winning submissions. Several local non-profit organizations and resource groups will have outreach tables at the event. Families are encouraged to attend so children of all ages can learn about Chávez’s dedication to labor and civil rights.

César Chávez Youth Essay Contest

To honor César Chávez, students in grades 7-12 are invited to write a 500-word essay responding to the following prompt: How has César Chávez influenced your life and what impact will his legacy have on your future?

Winners will receive cash prizes and the opportunity to present their winning essay during the event on Thursday, March 28.
