Due to new requirements on oil recyclers, the City of Woodland can no longer accept used cooking oil. Woodlanders that deep fry holiday meals should plan ahead and dispose of used oil safely. Residents can take used oil to the Yolo County Landfill Thursdays to Saturdays from 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM for free disposal. Used cooking oil should never be poured down storm drains or household sinks.
The City of Woodland ran a free residential used cooking oil recycling program for many years, but recent State-level changes forced the City to discontinue this program.
Small quantities of used oil (16 ounces or less) can be cooled, placed in a sealed container, frozen, and placed in the garbage on pickup day – preferably inside a plastic bag to ensure that the frozen container does not leak on the way to the landfill. Residents with larger quantities of used oil can dispose of it for free at the landfill Thursdays to Saturdays from 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM.
These changes only apply to residents – food service businesses operate under different guidelines.
