Chief’s Welcome
Welcome to the City of Woodland Fire Department (WFD) website!
The WFD has a rich history built on over 150 years of dedicated service to our community. Founded in 1870, just a year before the City itself was incorporated, the Department emerged from a grassroots effort by citizens who recognized the need to protect their homes and businesses from fire risks.
While we honor our storied past, we remain committed to adapting to current trends to meet the evolving needs of our growing community.
Mission Statement
Together as a team, the Woodland Fire Department will provide safe, customer-oriented service while protecting and enhancing the well-being of our community.
The WFD is proud to respond to over 9,000 calls for service each year, addressing a wide range of emergencies. We are an "all-risk" fire department, equipped with a solution-oriented team of trained professionals who excel in firefighting, emergency medical services, confined space rescue, hazardous materials response, technical rescues, and more. In response to the changing landscape of public safety, our personnel are also trained to collaborate with law enforcement during mass shooting events to quickly extricate victims for immediate medical treatment.
We are expanding our technological capabilities, utilizing GIS to refine our response strategies, and deploying drones during incident responses for enhanced situational awareness and scene management.
Our personnel are dedicated to our mission, vision, and values, which guide us in serving our community effectively. Recognizing that our people are our most valuable asset, we actively mentor and develop our personnel into leaders. As members of the West Valley Regional Fire Training Consortium, we participate in a regional training initiative designed to enhance partnerships through standardized training and operating guidelines.
In addition to our robust operational response, the Woodland Fire Department conducts fire and life safety inspections in businesses and schools, as well as reviewing plans for new construction in our community. We take pride in collaborating closely with business owners and developers to ensure compliance with the Uniform Fire Code while considering aesthetics and project costs.
The Woodland Fire Department is also responsible for Emergency Management within our City. Whether facing a large fire, earthquake, civil unrest, chemical release, or pandemic, our Department oversees the City Emergency Operations Center, hazard mitigation, continuity of operations, and disaster recovery, working closely with the Yolo County Office of Emergency Services. If you haven’t already, please sign up for important emergency notifications at Alert Yolo.
It is an honor and privilege to serve our community as your Fire Chief. I am truly humbled by the opportunity.
