The City of Woodland Environmental Services Branch is offering residents and businesses $100 rebates for the purchase of plant-based mulch for use in landscaping. A good mulch can conserve water by significantly reducing moisture evaporation from the soil. Mulch also helps maintain healthy plants by moderating soil temperature, which keeps their roots cooler in summer and warmer in winter. In addition, it helps prevent soil compaction and reduces weed populations. The State of California’s Save Our Water Project estimates that mulch can save 20 to 30 gallons of water per 1,000 square feet each time you run irrigation.
π§ Mulch must be purchased between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026 to be eligible.
π§ Applicant must be the property owner or tenant with an active City of Woodland utility account.
π§ Only plant-based mulch (e.g., bark, wood chips, hulls) is eligible for the rebate.
π§ Mulch must be installed to a minimum three-inch depth and used for landscaping and gardening purposes only.
π§ Mulch that is used only as groundcover with no plants in the surrounding area may not be approved.
π§ The level of rebate is the purchase price or $100, whichever is less.
π§ Rebate is for mulch plus tax and does not cover delivery charges or other fees.
π§ There is a limit of one rebate per utility account per fiscal year (July 1 β June 30).
π§ Applications must be received within 90 days of purchase. Applicant must submit a copy of the sales receipt.
π§ Mulch must be installed before rebate will be given. Applicant must submit photo(s) of their installed mulch.
π§ Units are subject to inspection for program compliance. Failure to comply may forfeit rebate.
